Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Collins dictionary defines a foundation as a construction below the ground that distributes the load of a building, wall, etc.
A proper foundation ensures the stability and desirable lifespan of a building. This is critical especially with unstable weather patterns, some of which can very adversely affect most buildings if they’re not well planned. With improper foundations, many buildings have experienced cracks and even collapsed in severe cases. Those investing in different types of buildings should desist from taking shortcuts, and instead lay appropriate foundations. Whether the builder has laid a proper foundation or not will be evident sooner or later as we see in the story of the two builders of Matt. 7:24-27 above.
God’s children need a sure foundation in order to victoriously go through life’s different weather conditions. When we build our lives on His word, it gives us the life skills to survive during the different seasons of life such as deserts, winds, storms, famine, floods, sickness, bereavement and any other form whether joy or adversity. God’s word has an answer for all situations in life and is the surest compass that will guide us through whatever vagaries of weather life offers us.
We need to emulate the first of the two builders whom Jesus commended because his building was founded on rock. For this reason he did not suffer any loss, unlike the second one whose foundation was on sand and great was his loss!
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Rock of our salvation. He is the sure Foundation that will enable us go through any situation we’re faced with. Whatever comes at us, we need not be afraid if we have built our lives on His word.
On the other hand, if we have founded our lives, that of our families, relationships and businesses on anything else other than Christ, time will reveal that it is all sinking sand! The good news however is that God gives each person who is willing, the opportunity to change any faulty foundations with His sure one.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, please help us to realize that You are the only sure foundation and that everything else that we base our lives on in this world is all but sinking sand. Where we have wrong foundations in any aspect, help us to make the necessary adjustments at the earliest opportunity to avoid any tragedies.
