Sometimes things can be very quiet in our lives, making it appear as though we’re either stagnating or even retrogressing. Nothing could be further from the truth, especially for a life surrendered to God. I’m reminded of many years ago when I was a college student and an incident occurred in the nation that involved some uniformed forces and a few university students. All the students were sent away from campus and we were home for 14 long months! On top of this, some of my friends got vacation jobs and I didn’t! The days were long and at times quite trying I must say. I used to go to the church office to volunteer my time for any odd jobs that were available. One day when I was feeling very low because of the many months spent at home, God turned my attention to something quite interesting. He brought to my mind the life history of a butterfly. Even though the caterpillar stage seems very busy, especially because the young caterpillars eat a lot, we are made to understand that the most active time is actually during the pupae stage! The cocoon may appear dead when one kicks it around, but the most activity is actually taking place at this stage because there’s transformation going on. Soon, out of this seemingly dead wrap emerges a beautiful butterfly. God was reassuring me that in this seemingly uneventful period of my life, I only needed to trust that He would work out something beautiful for my good.

God’s word to His people in Isaiah 30:15 says:

“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”

In case you’re going through a seemingly ‘quiet time’ in your life, just rest in His loving arms and allow Him to work out all the things you do not understand for your good.

Whatever happens, God’s children need not be afraid, but should rest in the fact that He is in control, working out His beautiful plan on their behalf.
